Neuropathy Treatment
Painful Peripheral Neuropathy is a frustrating, life impairing condition that is often overlooked until it is too late to treat effectively. There are numerous causes for Neuropathy, ranging from Diabetes to chemotherapy treatment, nerve compression, B12 deficiency, kidney dysfunction, idiopathic, age related and many more causes. However, Diabetes is the most common cause and it is one of the most troublesome complications of Diabetes; the elevated blood sugar damages small blood vessels in the feet.
When the blood supply to the nerve is affected, the nerve fibers that are responsible for pain conduction are damaged. As these damaged nerves are dying, the initial symptoms are mild but progressively worsen as they move from the toes to the feet to the legs.
The symptoms include:
Most medical treatments consist of drug prescriptions to help lessen the symptoms to make the disease more manageable for the patient; however, they usually involve prescription medications that mask the disease rather than treating it. These prescriptions do have systemic side effects and they do not retard the advancement of the underlying neuropathy. Recent research has shown that Cold Laser Therapy can help treat the underlying causes of neuropathy and help with symptom management.
Cold Laser Therapy helps by actually stimulating microcirculation around the nerve fibers, which increases blood flow to the nerves, enhances nerve regeneration and reduces neuropathic pain. Laser light energy penetrates the skin and stimulates increased oxygen on the cellular level. This increased ATP production by the mitochondria and increased cellular oxygen consumption increases microcirculation around the nerve which has been shown to help regenerate nerve fibers, heal peripheral nerves, aide in healing of wounds and tendons and is a cause for the reduction in pain.
Improved nerve metabolism and function means less pain, less numbness and tingling and better balance. In the latest trial research, the results showed that Cold Laser Therapy was determined to have a significant effect on the reduction of pain from Peripheral Neuropathy.
Since this is a progressive condition; it is not advisable to delay getting a comprehensive evaluation. If the Neuropathy has progressed too far, conservative treatments may no longer be an option. Please call us to schedule your comprehensive examination to assess whether you are a candidate for treatment.
Candidates that qualify for treatment may experience a reduction in their Neuropathy symptoms in a matter of weeks.
